Our ego is part of our identity and yet it is not something we came into this existence with. We acquired this identity later, shaped by our thoughts, beliefs and emotions; many of which were outside our control.
I have observed that when we become too attached to our sense of self or our ego, we suffer. We see ourselves as separate from the world around us and this perception can lead to ego suffering.
Letting go of this belief and attachment by practicing mindfulness and gratitude will help us overcome ego suffering and peace will descend upon us.
